Why Every Mum Needs a Nursing Cart (and How I Stocked Mine)

When you’re preparing for life with a newborn, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by all the “must-have” items. But one of the most practical, sanity-saving things you can set up is a nursing cart. Think of it as your mobile command centre—everything you’ll need for feeding, changing, and soothing your baby, all within arm’s reach.

Disclaimer: You do not need to buy the most expensive and trending gear either. Everything I have bought for my first pregnancy are second hand and cheap. The more expensive things mentioned in this post was simply gifted to me from my Baby Shower. I do plan to review a lot of the products I mention in my posts, but I am still pregnant. I will make sure to give everything a good test before I leave any feedback.

The beauty of a nursing cart is that it’s portable. Whether you’re in the living room, bedroom, or even moving between floors, you don’t have to scramble around the house trying to find wipes, creams, or snacks while juggling a hungry baby. It keeps things organised, accessible, and reduces stress when you need things quickly.

This is especially helpful if you are still healing and recovering in bed after your vaginal birth or C-Section.

Here’s a look at how I’ve stocked my nursing cart and the reasons behind each choice:

1st Tier: The Baby Care Essentials - Nappy Caddy

  • Bibs, burp cloths, portable changing mat → Quick clean-ups are a must. Having these right on top saves you from endless trips to the nursery. (A quick shoutout to my amazing mum for making the burp cloths for me!)

  • Baby wipes & antibacterial wipes → Because spills, spit-ups, and nappy changes happen constantly. Antibacterial wipes are also handy for keeping surfaces (and your hands) clean. You could also add hand sanitiser.

  • Baby toys → A little distraction goes a long way when you need a few extra minutes.

  • Nappy rash cream, Sudocrem, baby lotion, nipple cream → Skin protection and comfort are everything in those early weeks—for both baby and mum.

  • Newborn nappies → Stocking these saves you from the dreaded "last nappy in the house" moment. Keep in mind that babies grow out of nappy sizes fast.

  • Nasal aspirator & dummies → For soothing and helping your baby breathe comfortably when they’re congested.

This tier is all about immediate needs—grab-and-go items for quick changes and soothing baby fast.

2nd Tier: Feeding and Comfort

  • Sleep onesies, sleep sacks & muslin wraps → Perfect for those middle-of-the-night outfit changes and keeping baby snug.

  • Breast pumps (Momcozy S9 Pro), Haaka, storage bags & nipple shields → Pumping supplies on hand mean you can express milk anytime without searching for parts.

  • Charger → Because nothing is worse than your pump dying halfway through.

This tier is set up to support feeding—whether nursing, expressing, or settling baby back down to sleep.

3rd Tier: Mum’s Fuel and Extras

  • Nappy bags & disposable breast pads → Easy disposal for messes and keeping yourself dry and comfortable.

  • Snacks (Milo bars, Oreos, Rice Wheels, Popcorn) → Feeding a baby makes you hungry, and having snacks nearby helps keep your energy up (especially at 3 a.m.).

This tier is really about looking after yourself too—because a well-fed, hydrated mum is better able to care for her baby.

Not Shown but Handy:

  • Mini fridge or Skincare fridge → To store cold snacks, cold drinks, collected breast milk temporarily and your breast gel pads for cold therapy.

  • Cold snacks in your Mini fridge → Quick protein boosts without having to trek to the kitchen, especially during night feeds.

  • Electric nail file → Tiny baby nails grow so fast, and this makes trimming them safe and stress-free.

  • Nodiee sound machine → A soothing tool for settling baby anywhere you roll the cart.

Why I Love Having a Nursing Cart

The nursing cart has been a game-changer because it keeps everything I need in one place. No frantic searching, no waking the baby by running to another room, and no forgetting where I put that one item I swore I’d just had. It’s organised, practical, and honestly makes the newborn stage feel a little more manageable.

If you’re preparing for your baby’s arrival, I can’t recommend setting up a nursing cart enough. It’s simple, flexible, and you can stock it with whatever suits your routine best. Trust me—you’ll thank yourself later.
